🌟 Exciting Update from USH - University of St. Helena! 🌟
Our amazing teachers recently participated in Module 5 of the NTE: New Teacher Experience program! 🎓✨
Module 5 focused on Parent and Community Engagement, where our new teachers discovered high-yield strategies rooted in the latest educational research. They learned effective ways to communicate with parents and engage key stakeholders in the school environment—helping to prevent challenges before they arise.
The best part? Our teachers actively collaborated as a team, bringing back valuable resources to our district! 💡 They’re already planning to share their insights and lead our next district professional development session! 👏👏
We are proud of their dedication to growing and fostering strong connections with our school community.

Today, our 8th-grade science learners stepped into the role of environmental scientists!
As part of our unit on Natural Resources and Human Impact (OpenSciEd 7.6), learners participated in a hands-on outdoor learning project designed to connect science with real-world issues in our community.
What they worked on:
Learners completed three investigations:
• Trash Audit: Collected, sorted, and tallied trash found around campus to analyze our waste and its impact on natural resources.
• Shade and Temperature Study: Measured temperatures in different areas—under trees, on concrete, and in grassy fields—to observe how vegetation affects heat and energy use.
• Garden and Soil Study: Examined soil health, moisture, and plant life to understand the importance of healthy soil in sustaining life and conserving resources.
What they did:
Learners worked in teams, practiced scientific data collection, used thermometers to record temperatures, and made connections between their observations and the importance of conservation and sustainability. They discussed the environmental impact of waste and brainstormed ways our school can reduce its footprint.
Teacher Observation and Feedback:
I was proud to see our learners engaged, curious, and asking great questions like “How does planting more trees really help reduce heat?” and “What happens to this trash if we don’t pick it up?” Their teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking were truly impressive. Watching them connect science to their everyday world was a reminder of why hands-on learning matters.
Our learners are learning to care for the environment—one project, one observation, and one solution at a time!

🎉🎂 Happy Birthday to our amazing Superintendent, Dr. Kelli Joseph! 🎉🎂
May your day be filled with love, joy, and countless blessings. We are so grateful for your leadership and dedication. Wishing you the best on your special day!
We love you! 💖🎈

🌟 Science in Action! 🌟
Today in class, our learners had a blast mixing vinegar and baking soda to observe an exciting chemical reaction! 🧪✨
As soon as the substances were combined, the classroom was filled with bubbles and fizzing sounds. The best part? The balloon on top of the vial started to inflate, proving that carbon dioxide gas (CO₂) was being released during the reaction! 🎈
Using the C.E.R. (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) method, learners reflected on their experiment:
Claim: When vinegar and baking soda are mixed, they undergo a chemical reaction that produces carbon dioxide gas.
Evidence: The balloon inflated as the mixture bubbled and fizzed, the container felt cooler, and bubbles formed, showing gas production.
Reasoning: Because the balloon filled with gas and new substances were formed, learners concluded that this was a chemical change. The reaction between vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base) produces carbon dioxide gas, water, and sodium acetate. The balloon’s expansion is clear evidence of gas creation, proving the chemical reaction was a success!
Science is all about discovery, and today, our learners saw firsthand how chemical reactions work. 🔬💡
