Hawk Nation! This weekend our band competed in the Inaugural South Pike High School Battle of the Bands. St. Helena Marching Band won: 1st Band in the Medium Band Division and 2nd Place Dance and Flag Team. This is a major accomplishment for us and a testament to our learners' hard work, dedication, and efforts to achieve success both in the classroom and in the band and music arena.

Filburn (1942), and Goldberg v. Kelly (1970)—all while working toward strong academic outcomes. They identified key features of various text structures in two literary pieces—including poetry—and explored how different structures impact meaning. Today’s Learning Spotlight: Building Empathy through Conflict Resolution Our learners engaged in a powerful activity designed to deepen their understanding of emotions and perspectives during conflicts. Objective: To explore and understand emotions involved in conflicts, enhancing empathy. Activity Highlight: Learners were presented with a real-life scenario—a learner feels excluded from a group. Working in small groups, they created “Empathy Maps” that captured: • What each character thinks • What they feel • What they might say • And what they might do These thoughtful reflections opened the door for meaningful discussions on how empathy can reshape conflict resolution and promote kindness in our school community. 📚 Learners are diving deep into analyzing how characters’ perspectives change in response to key events in a text! They’re honing their skills to describe character reactions and use evidence to explain how these reactions reflect a shift in point of view. Through guided reading and thoughtful discussion, they’re also practicing comparing and contrasting how different characters interpret the same events.
