This time last year, schools in Louisiana were closed due the COVID-19 pandemic. St. Helena Parish School District took several steps to ensure our students were able to continue their learning. Through Cares Act funding, we were able to purchase a laptop for every student to use at school in addition to necessary equipment to support eLearning. Moreover, we were able to provide 978 Chromebooks for students to use at home during the transition to our online learning platform.
As we close out the 2020-2021 school year, we want to continue to support online learning by extending the use of the district-issued Chromebooks for students. Families are encouraged to keep their district-issued Chromebook for students to use during the summer. Additionally, graduating seniors can keep their Chromebooks to use as they pursue post-secondary endeavors. Any graduating seniors wishing to keep their Chromebooks must complete the Chromebook Check Out Form in the front office at SHCCA no later than May 20, 2021. Families wishing to return their district-issued Chromebooks must turn in the Chromebook and charger to the Central Office during normal business hours.
Chromebooks are separate from the district issued WIFI Hotspots. Hotspots and chargers are still required to be returned to Central Office by May 31, 2021 if parents do not wish to assume the monthly bill. Beginning May 12, 2021, families can begin applying for the Emergency Broadband Benefit by scanning the QR code below or going to https://getemergencybroadband.org/ and completing the online application. This benefit covers up to $50 per month on broadband services and associated equipment rentals.
