On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Superintendent’s Advisory Council successfully hosted the annual Learner’s Mini-Summit, an impactful experience designed to motivate and empower learners through purposeful dialogue and reflection. The 2025 summit focused intentionally on the themes of purpose, leadership, and respect, reinforcing the district’s commitment to developing learners who are prepared academically, socially, and ethically for the real world.
The summit featured three distinguished guest speakers who shared meaningful insights with the entire school community. The program opened with The Most Reverend Dr. Moses Simms of Greater Turner Chapel, who delivered a powerful message centered on discovering one’s purpose and remaining resilient in the face of challenges. Reverend Simms emphasized the importance of faith, perseverance, and personal accountability, encouraging learners to remain focused on their goals despite obstacles they may encounter.
Following Reverend Simms, learners heard from Pastor Lonnie Tucker of Faith Temple Church. Pastor Tucker spoke thoughtfully about the critical role of respect in leadership and daily interactions. He highlighted respect for oneself, peers, educators, and the broader community, stressing that strong character, discipline, and service are foundational qualities of effective leaders.
The summit concluded with an engaging and impactful presentation from Attorney Nichelle Cook, an educational and social advocate from Kentwood. Attorney Cook provided practical, real-world guidance on preparing for life beyond school. She addressed the importance of informed decision-making, accountability, and understanding how present choices influence future opportunities. Her message strongly reinforced leadership, self-advocacy, and responsibility as essential skills for long-term success.
Collectively, the speakers delivered a cohesive and compelling message that challenged learners to reflect on their values, behaviors, and aspirations. The Learner’s Mini-Summit served as a meaningful platform for leadership development, character building, and real-world readiness, further supporting the district’s mission to educate the whole child and prepare learners to lead with purpose, respect, and integrity.
