Kids Scoop News!
St. Helena Parish School District is proud to partner with the Family Resource Center to bring Kids Scoop News to our learners as part of our comprehensive literacy improvement strategy. As we prepare to open our new Literacy Lab in May of this school year, Kids Scoop News will serve as a key instructional resource supporting our district’s commitment to strengthening reading proficiency, vocabulary development, and critical thinking skills across grade levels.
Kids Scoop News is an engaging, student-centered newspaper designed to make reading relevant and meaningful. Each issue includes informational articles, standards-aligned activities, current events, career exploration features, and interactive literacy exercises that reinforce comprehension, fluency, and written expression. The format allows students to engage with nonfiction text in a way that builds academic stamina while increasing interest and curiosity.
This initiative aligns directly with our district’s Blueprint to Excellence and our bold commitment to improving reading outcomes for all learners. By integrating high-quality, engaging reading materials into structured literacy support, we are moving beyond traditional intervention models and creating a dynamic environment where students can grow as confident, capable readers.
Kids Scoop News represents more than a publication—it is a strategic literacy tool that supports our district-wide goals and reinforces our belief that strong readers become strong learners. Through this partnership and the launch of our Literacy Lab, we are intentionally investing in the academic foundation that drives long-term student success.
