In the fall of 1989, St. Helena Parish School System, under the leadership of Superintendent Perry P. Spears, implemented a consolidation plan for the parish’s schools. This plan was designed to improve the educational system in St. Helena Parish. The number of schools was reduced from seven schools to three schools. St. Helena Elementary, Greensburg Elementary, Fifth Ward Elementary, and Pine Grove Elementary became St. Helena Central Elementary, and St. Helena Central Middle School . The elementary school site for the parish was housed on the campus of the former St. Helena Elementary. St. Helena Central Middle was housed on the former campus of St. Helena High. The old Greensburg High School became the site for what is now St. Helena Central High School . With the hawk becoming the new mascot for the parish’s three schools, St. Helena Parish has moved into the 21st century, continuing to strive for excellence in the education of all students in the parish. Just as the mighty hawk soars high with pride, so do the schools in the St. Helena Parish school system.
